Chow said that as of now, the state government is proceeding with a plan to commission a study on the future needs of the existing Penang International Airport (PEN) and its surroundings.

Nevertheless, he said that the state government is open to proposals for a second airport in the state – provided that it does not jeopardise the role and function of PEN and any future development in the area.

“The economy of Penang and its people must benefit from any such proposal,” he added.

According to the English daily, a private company has proposed plans for a new Penang airport to the federal government; while another corporation is poised to do the same.

The former, which is planning to undertake construction of the proposed North Malaysia International Airport (NMIA), plans to build the proposed airport near the border shared by Kedah, Penang and Perak, which is currently a vast track of paddy fields.

The second proposal, the Northern Region International Airport (NORIA), will be proposed to the federal government soon.

Transport Ministry refutes claim

The Transport Ministry, meanwhile, has dismissed the report, saying that no such proposal has been submitted to the government.

“I have no idea where this information came from. There is no such proposal.

“There is only one airport in Penang, the Penang International Airport, which we will be expanding,” Transport Minister Anthony Loke told the New Straits Times, today.

The KXP factor

The report on the proposed second Penang airport comes after Kedah recently announced that it will build the RM1.6 billion Kulim International Airport (KXP) via a private financing initiative.

KXP is one of seven mega projects worth RM3 billion recently announced for Kedah.

But Chow has repeatedly raised reservations on the construction of KXP, stressing that it would have a negative impact on PEN.

The Chief Minister also said that Penang will conduct a feasibility study of KXP to assess its long-term effect on the state’s economy.

The article, published yesterday, singled out Penang as a mecca for food and architecture lovers. it was written by Kate Springer, a Hong Kong-based freelance writer and editor, with focus on travel, dining, culture and environmental reporting.

On Penang, Springer said: “Located off the western coast of Malaysia, the island of Penang is a mecca for food and architecture lovers.

“George Town, the island’s main city, makes for an ideal home base, thanks to a dynamic cityscape that’s punctuated by British colonial architecture, Buddhist temples and ornate Chinese manor houses.

“This seaside city is known as one of the world’s top food destinations, serving up a delicious mix of Malay, Chinese and Indian cuisine.

“You’ll crave dishes like Hokkien mee (fried prawn noodles), roti canai (an Indian-influenced flat bread dish with dal or curry) and Penang laksa for years after visiting.”

Besides Penang, also named were Bhutan, El Nido in the Philippines, Bali in Indonesia, Seoul in South Korea, Rajasthan in India, Siem Reap in Cambodia, Hong Kong, Hanoi and Phu Quoc in Vietnam, The Great Wall and Xi’an in China, Chiang Rai in Thailand, Luang Prabang in Laos, Kathmandu in Nepal, Yogyakarta in Indonesia, Kyoto in Japan, Sri Lanka and Maldives.

“The state Tourism Committee chairman (Yeoh Soon Hin) is working very hard to transform this important economic sector so that we continue to be a destination of choice and provide job opportunities for our people,” Chow said in an immediate WhatsApp response to the New Straits Times.

On July 13 last year, Bangkok-based CNN Travel senior producer Karla Cripps, in her article “George Town, Penang: Asia’s greatest street food city?” wrote at length on Penang’s street food culture and the state as an eater’s paradise.

Many home buyers have faces problems mostly during the handover of their property keys. It includes defect in the property itself and maybe late delivery of vacant possession. The most basic remedy to those problems are through filing of defect form to the property management for rectification and write into the developer for claiming Liquidated Agreed Damages (LAD). But what is the defect are delayed and not up to satisfactory? Or What if the LAD compensation are less than what we are supposed to receive?

Timeframe For The Complain Submission

  • It is expected that the case can be resolved in 120 working days from the date of submission.
