Penang International Airport’s new link bridge nearing completion

Passangers will soon be able to enjoy a seamless connectivity experience between the Penang International Airport (PIA) and the multistorey car park building when the construction of the link bridge is completed.

Penang Infrastructure, Transport and Digital Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said the construction works of the link bridge and other components of the project were scheduled to be completed by April 27 this year.

“The project, undertaken by the Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), includes constructing a covered link bridge from Level 3 of the multistorey car park to the departure-level terminal building of the PIA; a covered crossing at the ground level; pedestrian crossing traffic light at the ground level; and improving access ramps and the ground level.

“The cost of the project was RM4.6 million,” Zairil told Buletin Mutiara yesterday, adding that the project started on Aug 18 last year (2023).

He anticipated the link bridge would provide seamless connectivity between the airport and the multistorey car park.

“Crucially, it will ensure safety, offering independent access away from road traffic and shelter from the rain,” Zairil added.

Another 4.6million added to make but why no bridge in initial stage of carpark proposal?

All the big brain never go oversea issit?

From 2020 the multistorey carpark already done, but the bridge 4 years later, how they cover the operation cost in this 4years?

If can cover means we don’t need this bridge what?

It is like an add on item, looks weird.
Later when new expansion on terminal carry out, they might need to remove.
No proper planning due to cost saving is the key factor.
Now let us see how the LRT station locate at airport, you might need to take a shuttle bus or walk with luggage under hot sun who knows.

Obviously an afterthought. MAHB decided to build the bridge after getting criticized by the users. Poor planning, incompetent personnel and corruption have always plagued our government projects (both state and federal). Just look at the quality of Gurney Bay project. The park is already broken. Or take the new ferry as another example- I wonder who in the right mind thought it was an acceptable design. Upcoming disaster will be the TNB monopole transmission towers. Nothing surprises us Penangites anymore.
