Kota Permai intersection is now being upgraded
The intersection of Jalan Kota Permai and Jalan Bukit Minyak is currently under construction to build a roundabout and install traffic lights. It is expected to be completed by mid-May next year, which will bring greater convenience to road users.
Seberang Perai Municipal Councilor Tan Yun Hui pointed out that the Penang state government allocated RM3.5 million for this project.
He mentioned that the project includes widening the bridges, modifying drainage systems, adding road dividers, constructing a roundabout, updating the traffic light system, widening the road surface, and building sidewalks.
“The three-way intersection at the Kota Permai town will soon be transformed into a roundabout, and traffic lights will be installed to ensure safer and more orderly traffic flow.”
These changes aim to make traffic safer and more organized in Kota Permai. The town has experienced significant growth in recent years, with schools and shops, making it a bustling hub for shopping and dining. Its strategic location connecting areas like Bukit Mertajam, Alma, and Jalan Song Ban Kheng has made it a busy transit route for work and school commuters.

removing all the unlicensed roadside vendor will smoothen out the traffic and cost nothing….LOL
Why the roundabout is needed when there is already traffic lights? Furthermore the roundabout should be quite small for that area, making the flow rather peculiar. We will just need the right amount of lanes for the volume.
Hope the engineer did the right study on the roundabout before building it… else later on need to remove it.
Let’s see what will happen in May 2024… if it is complete on time.

I also noticed the arrow they drew for the lanes, seems odd.
What needs to be straight is turn right, what needs to turn right is straight. You need to have PhD to drive at this junction/roundabout.
Roundabout is known better in alleviating heavy traffic and road accident than traffic light and gaining popular even in the US but how effective it is in this area let’s to be seen.
Another concern around this area/jln bukit minyak is flooding only hope engineer studied enough how to build better drainage system to effectively avoid in future
