Proposal to build workers’ quarters in Penang Tech Park shelved

The proposal to build a centralised workers’ quarters (CLQ) at the industrial area in Penang Technology Park in Bertam, Kepala Batas has been cancelled.

Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Ahmad Zakiyuddin Abdul Rahman said the developer decided not to go ahead with the project after taking into account the views of the various stakeholders.

“The stakeholders include local residents, local leaders, and other technical departments.

“We are delighted to receive information from the developer to not proceed with the development of CLQ.

“We will monitor the Penang Technology Park’s project to ensure it benefits the people in the state,” said Zakiyuddin, who is also the Penang Technology Park Monitoring Committee chairman during a press conference in Komtar today.

Zakiyuddin said the developer was now in the process of working alongside the industry.

“For the time being, the state is of the view that there is a need for the industry to manage the workers’ placement and encourage the industry to consider if it is necessary to develop the CLQ,” he said.

“We will be monitoring the situation from time to time.”

Meanwhile, the public is welcome to attend the Perkampungan Khaira Ummah 2030 (KAMPUNGKU2030) event in Masjid Ibadur Rahman, Kepala Batas, starting tomorrow until this Sunday.

“Those who attend the event can gain more knowledge of the state’s initiative in religious development,” he said, adding that Penang Governor Tun Ahmad Fuzi Abdul Razak is slated to launch the event.

On a separate matter, Zakiyuddin announced that the allowance for meeting attendance for the 375 Village Community Management Councils (MPKK) in the state would be increased from July 1 this year.

Penang Affordable Housing Expo coming soon

The Penang Affordable Housing Expo is returning this year and it will be held at Lower Ground, Prangin Mall from Sept 30 to Oct 2.

Penang Local Government, Housing, Town, and Country Planning Committee chairman Jagdeep Singh Deo welcomed all affordable housing players to take part in the housing expo.

“It is free for affordable housing players to participate in the expo.

“The expo is the commitment in our agenda to ensure there is affordable housing available for Penangites,” he said before chairing the Housing and Real Estate Sectors Roundtable Discussion 2022 in Komtar today.

During the media conference, Jagdeep urged the Federal Government to work harder to assist the state and the industry, in particular the housing industry.

“We understand from the housing developers about the increase in building material prices and the industry’s labour shortage.

“The state will try to assist as much as possible, where the state is concerned.

“However, most of the issues faced by the industry are beyond our control. The Federal Government must work harder to assist us on the issues that are confronting us,” he said.

He thanked the Penang Housing Board, relevant agencies, and housing industry partners for supporting the state’s housing agenda.

Also present were Penang Housing Board general manager Ainul Fadhilah Samsudi and Penang Island City Council (MBPP) secretary Datuk A. Rajendran.

After nearly two years of lockdowns and travel restrictions, the buying interest in Penang property is seen rebounding amid the improving economy.

Apart from the top 3 above, Lucerne Residences, D’ Starlingtton and Crown Penang are some of the new projects which got into the top 10.

It is also worth mentioning that Suria 2, an affordable housing project by Penang State Government, is the only housing project located in the mainland (Seberang Perai) that made it to the list.

An affordable housing development by Spirit of Perai Sdn. Bhd. at Permatang Pasir near Permatang Pauh. It is located about 5km away from North-South Expressway – Sungai Dua interchange, about 10 minutes drive to Seberang Jaya town centre.

This development will be completed in two phases:
