Penang govt proposes city status for MPSP in Seberang Perai
The Penang government intends to apply to the federal government to upgrade the Seberang Perai Municipal Council (MPSP) to a city council.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said the state government had earlier wanted to apply for MPSP to be upgraded together with the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) as city councils.
However, he said, due to the federal government policy of limiting one city to a state, the state government only applied for MPPP to be granted city status. This was obtained in 2015.
“MPSP had met the criteria for a city since 2008, but due to the policy we did not apply.
He hopes that the new federal government will revise the restriction.
“Our officers will follow up with the ministry to determine the current situation,” he told reporters after the swearing in of 24 MPSP councillors, including 11 new ones.
The councillors were sworn in for the July 2018 to December 2019 term at the MPSP Building, Bandar Perda, here on July 2.

I dont get this..there has been almost no development plans on the ground that had taken off that has improved transportation, drainage, zone separation [industrial/transport from residential], haphazard planning in approvals of new projects, and very poor enforcement on littering, illegal structures by the roads, abandoned projects that litter the skyline…
The State Gov needs to get it’s priorities right and start from ground zero before talking about city status.
@allen Don’t worry lah, Penang state gov always does thing slow and steady one. A simple projects will take up at least 5 to 6 years till the cows come home.

allen is not worried. He is highlighting the fact that if you don’t get the basics right, what’s the point of getting a “city status”???? So it’s like if someone’s not contributing sincerely to our community, what’s the point of buying a “datuk title?

need to split MPSP into utara , tengah and selatan
Keep proposing and yet nothing done ? Penang gov is practically an empty tank !
