Chowrasta-Market

The culturally and historically significant landmark, Chowrasta Market’s physical form is given new life. Chowrasta Market’s integrity is preserved with careful planning with integration of existing marketplace activity while sensitively adding new functions and spaces to revitalise the character and quality of the market. The design also intends to create a pioneer eco-project based on responsible and sustainable planning, aiming for GBI certification. Due to community needs and interests, public consultation and focus group studies were conducted throughout the entire design process.

6-ELEVATION

Upgrading works of the three-storey market, built in 1890, started in May 2013, and works include tearing down existing shops and stalls, replacing them with new ones as well as building two extra floors on the back portion of the market to serve as car park.

It was also reported that the new market will have 295 stalls and shops as well as 56 stalls selling dry goods along Jalan Chowrasta.

Other features of the market makeover include opening an entrance from Jalan Kuala Kangsar.

While the car park is already opened, the upgrading works for the whole market complex is scheduled to complete end of this year.

    jenny, James,

    You are not the one to decide whether your vehicle is obstructing the flow of traffic or not. if you park illegally, then be prepared to get summon or tow away. A lot of people will be happy to see this happen :)

    illegal park is illegal park. What mindset is that for officer shouldn’t summon me because I park without obstructing the flow of traffic.

    No obstruction no towing, only summon. Do you understand ? Ask any council workers try to issue summons in Sg.Pinang area and see how they react ?

    @Tk

    Not true, a lot of people are actually starting to feel very frustrated. It is important that people should follow the law, but first of all, the law must make sense. If people are forced to follow law that don’t make sense, then an option would be to change the people who make the rules that don’t make sense, and hopefully our society will make more sense. Blind obedience can stifle the agility of our society.

    James, you may think that your car is not obstructing anyone. But there is a reason of having a proper parking space. Otherwise everyone can park anywhere assuming it is not obstructing anyone.

    I would be very happy to see car being towed away because of illegal parking. Otherwise people will not learn from the lesson. Thinking that they are rich enough to pay parking summon.

    There is a reason saying “idiot”. Hoping all cars will be towed away and do away the summons in the future. Like the DIBS but do not make noise later.
